Common
Uses: A bright, fresh fragrance. Geranium
oil can be used to help in the treatment of the following: acne, bruises,
burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, hemorrhoids, lice, mosquito repellant,
ringworm, ulcers, breast engorgement, edema, poor circulation, sore throat,
tonsillitis, PMS, menopausal problems, stress and neuralgia. Diuretic
(increases urination, reduces fluid retention), eases breast engorgement,
edema. Stimulates circulation - assists toxin removal re: cellulite, regeneration
of skin cells, imparts a healthy glow to skin that is dull, blemished,
dry because of accumulated toxins. Stops bleeding of cuts/wounds, tightens
& tones tissue. Used to treat gallstones, kidney stones. It's
reputation as an extremely versatile essential oil is well documented.
Blends
well with: Angelica, Basil, Bergamot, Carrot seed, Cedarwood,
Citronella, Clary Sage, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Lavender, Lime, Neroli, Orange
and Rosemary.
Aromatherapy Properties: Eases
anxiety & tension on mentally & physically demanding days, antidepressant,
frees mind from negative thoughts. Promotes harmony between men &
women, balances passive & aggressive tendencies. Simultaneously calms
& energizes, but some people respond to its sedative action,
others are stimulated by it. Stimulates feelings of sensuality. Calming.
Aromatic
Scent: Geranium has a scent that is both sweet and herbaceous,
while carrying some subtle notes similar in character to Rose.
History:
The plants originated from South Africa as well as Reunion, Madagascar,
Egypt and Morocco. They were introduced to European countries such as
Italy, Spain and France in the 17th century. In early times geraniums
were planted around the house to help keep evil sprits at bay.
Usage
Warning: Can lower blood sugar level, use
with caution or avoid with hypoglycemia. Non-toxic, non-irritant
and generally non-sensitizing, though it can cause sensitivity in some
people and due to the fact that it balances the hormonal system, it should
be avoided during pregnancy.
